Midfielder Matt Kleven’s seven goals fired the top-ranked St. Thomas men’s club lacrosse team to the semifinal round of the MCLA Division II national tournament after its 18-8 defeat of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (Conn.) 18-8 Tuesday.

St. Thomas will face the winner of the No. 8-seed Sam Houston St. (Texas) and No. 9 U.S. Coast Guard (Conn.) contest, Tuesday at 12:30 p.m.

With the win, the Tommies clinched their first MIAC tournament title since 2010 and the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.

St. Thomas moves on to Sunday’s MIAC tournament championship game where it will face the winner of No. 2-seed Concordia-Moorhead and No. 3-seed Augsburg.
