St. Thomas softball falls to St. John Fisher in season-ending defeat

St. John Fisher pitcher Lindsey Thayer retired the final 13 St. Thomas batters and tossed a two-hitter to defeat the 12th-ranked Tommies 2-0 Friday and eliminate them from the College World Series.

Despite a seventh-inning comeback led by catcher Chase Shortly’s RBI single, the ninth-ranked Emory University Eagles defeated 12th-ranked St. Thomas 3-2 in the first round of the College World Series Thursday.

The St. Thomas softball team received an automatic bid to the 2016 NCAA Division III regional tournament after defeating St. Kate’s on Sunday and claiming the title of MIAC playoff champions.

Pitcher Kierstin Anderson-Glass struck out five Macalester Scots to help the Tommies to a 2-0 victory in their first game Wednseday. Macalester took the second game 6-5.
