She’s greeted many St. Thomas students with her sweet “hello” and for lucky others, memorized names and formed relationships that all started with a trip to the cafeteria.

Dining Services worker Dorothy Piper, lovingly known as “Dottie” in the St. Thomas community, is 91 years old and in her 16th year of swiping ID cards during meal times.

Dottie works at The View 9 a.m. until around 2:30 p.m. every weekday.

Her favorite part of her job is being with her students.

“I love them all,” Dottie said. “There may a few that are kind of quiet, but the majority of them, they’re all great.”
