The Tommies scored on only two of their nine offensive possessions. They had three turnovers, two failed fourth-down conversions, a blocked field-goal attempt and a punt on their other seven.

The Stout defense contained the Tommie rushing attack and consistently put pressure on Perra throughout the first half. Perra connected on the opening possession with tight end Matt Christenson for a 9-yard touchdown pass. Running back Jordan Roberts contributed a 7-yard touchdown run to round out the scoring for the Tommies.

Tough pressure and tight coverage from the Blue Devils prevented the Tommies from any more scoring in the half and stifled a late-second quarter trip to the red zone. Perra was intercepted at the 13-yard line with 15 seconds remaining.

The Blue Devils responded to the Tommies’ opening-drive score with a touchdown of their own. Quarterback J. Dan Sturgeon connected with receiver Kevion McDonald for 77 yards. McDonald added a 3-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter to tie the score.

This was the first time the Tommies have not led going into the second half of a regular season game since Oct. 8, 2016. against Concordia-Moorhead, when they were down 7-3. The Tommies came back to win 23-20.
