Peer Ministry serves pancakes with discussion

A new Peer Ministry event called “Pancakes with Jesus” is one of several programs the student team is putting on this fall.

Peer Minister Tim Stammeyer came up with the idea of having discussions over pancakes after impromptu breakfasts he made with his friends last year. Stammeyer said he hopes it will draw students to the discussions.

“I thought, what better way to get college kids in the door than pancakes?” Stammeyer said.

Stammeyer was initially worried about the reaction from his boss, the Rev. Erich Rutten, to promotional fliers. The fliers depict Da Vinci’s “The Last Supper” with pancakes on Jesus’ plate.

“I was scared that he was just going to call me into his office and be like, ‘You’re fired,’” Stammeyer said, “but instead he was on the floor laughing.”

Other Peer Ministry events include praise and worship services, discussion groups and activities designed to help students grow in their faith.

“Pancakes with Jesus” will be held again Oct. 2 in Koch Fireside.
