Riedel receives All-American honors at banquet

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.– Goaltender Alise Riedel of St. Thomas was named an All-American at the Division-III national championship banquet Thursday night in Plattsburgh, N.Y.

In addition to being named to the 2012 All-American team, Riedel has made two All-MIAC teams and the MIAC All-Rookie team as a first-year. Riedel holds an 18-1-3 record this season, with six shutouts, a .949 save percentage and 1.25 goal against average heading into Friday’s matchup against Plattsburgh State.

Along with handing out awards, each team had a representative talk about his/her respective team. Senior forward Maria Bothwell was the Tommies’ speaker. She talked about St. Thomas’ journey to Plattsburgh and what it took to be in the Frozen Four.

For the meal at the banquet, each player had their choice of chicken or steak, served with cooked veggies, rolls, salad, portobello mushrooms, pasta, and cake for dessert.

The puck drops for the Tommies at 3:30 p.m. E.T. against Plattsburgh. In the second semifinal, Norwich takes on Wis.-River Falls at 7 p.m. The national championship will be played Saturday at 7 p.m. and the consolation final at 3:30 p.m.
