ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – Wide receiver Nick Waldvogel fought off several Bethel tacklers on a 44-yard run late in the first quarter Saturday to score the sole touchdown of the half and giveSt. Thomas (5-0 MIAC, 7-0 overall) a 7-0 lead over the Royals.

Bethel (3-2 MIAC, 3-4 overall) reached the end zone once in the first quarter as well, but an offside call wiped out the touchdown. Offside penalties have become the Royals’ achilles heel this season.

St. Thomas linebacker Dylan Andrew broke up another near-touchdown from Bethel with 30 seconds left in the half.

St. Thomas cornerback Michael Alada highlighted the St. Thomas defense with an interception in the first quarter, his eighth of the season.

Bethel quarterback Jake Marsh passed for 114 yards in the first half to lead the offense for both teams. St. Thomas has won 30 of its last 32 games in October dating back to 2009, but both losses came on the road against Bethel, in 2013 and 2014.

With his touchdown, Waldvogel reached 200 points as a Tommie.
