Tommie Spotlight: Doyle O’Brien

Ending your collegiate career is never easy, but for senior Doyle O’Brien, a successful start to her last season with the St. Thomas women’s golf team is proving to be a great way to go out with a bang.

For women’s golf coach Sara Evens, O’Brien’s attitude is contagious and contributes to her success on the green.

“She wakes up in a good mood and she really goes to the golf course with thinking she’s going to play well every day,” Evens said.

In her final season with the team, O’Brien said bringing her teammates with her to nationals is her ultimate goal.

“Personally I hope just to go with my team to nationals, and that’s usually reached by winning the MIAC conference championship in the end of October,” O’Brien said.

Coming off of a strong spring season as the sole St. Thomas female representative at nationals last year, Evens said O’Brien won’t stop until she reaches her goal.

“I don’t think she’s going to be satisfied until the team makes it to nationals,” Evens said. “She’s very fortunate this year because she’s got a great group that have a ton of talent. I think she’s just going to bring that national experience and hopefully we’ll be at nationals next May.”
