LAKE FOREST, Illinois – First-year Dana Connelly drove in two runs with a bases-loaded single in the third inning to lead St. Thomas past Wisconsin-Whitewater, 3-2, Friday afternoon in the opening round of the NCAA Division III softball tournament at the Lake Forest College field.

The Tommies (39-6 overall) scored their first run on a single and a fielder’s choice by pitcher Kierstin Anderson-Glass that scored infielder Megan Dupuis in the first inning. Dupuis reached base on a hit-by-pitch.

Whitewater (28-3 overall) got on the board in the fourth inning with a two-run home run by third baseman Hannah Taylor that outfielder scored Caitlin Catino to trim the lead to 3-2.

Winning pitcher Anderson-Glass went all seven innings, allowing five hits, striking out seven and walking none. Losing pitcher Julia Camardo allowed four hits, no walks and struck out four.

Game time was moved forward an hour because of threatening weather.
