About 575 St. Thomas students watched singer-songwriter Andy Grammer perform in the Woulfe Alumni Hall Saturday night at the St. Thomas Activities and Recreation’s spring concert.

Grammer performed some of his hit songs such as “Fine By Me” and “Keep Your Head Up,” as well as new releases “Forever” and “Back Home.” He also performed a clean version of Macklemore’s “Thrift Shop.”

The singer-songwriter reminisced about his days performing on the streets before he made it big, singing “Biggest Man in Los Angeles.”

“Nobody cared who I was,” Grammer said of those times.

The event was originally supposed to take place on the John P. Monahan Plaza, but weather conditions forced STAR to move the event indoors. Sophomore Michael Bridges said he was not disappointed by the change.

“Not if it rains on us out there,” Bridges said.

Though she is not a huge fan of Grammer, freshman Stephanie Vassar was familiar with his songs and was eager to see the show.

“(I’m excited) just to see him perform live and be in the front row,” Vassar said.

Grammer said the St. Thomas crowd was sweet and engaged.

“They sang, and then they all came for the meet and greet. There was a huge line,” Grammer said. “It was the best.”

Grammer has sang at St. Thomas before, but he said this performance was different.

“This time was better because everyone sings the words. They were screaming,” Grammer said. “It’s fantastic.”

At college venues, Grammer said, some people in the crowd are not familiar with him and his music.

“Half the crowd is like psyched and singing the words, and the other half is like ‘Who is this guy, what is he doing?’” Grammer said. “I have to kind of win them over. I like the challenge.”
