Crews battle plant fire in Shakopee

SHAKOPEE, Minn. (AP) — Emergency crews are on the scene of an apparent plant explosion and fire in Shakopee, but the city says there is no immediate danger.

Shakopee City Manager Mark McNeill says the fire was reported early Thursday afternoon near Rahr Malting Co.

It’s unknown if anyone was hurt. The city of Shakpoee has tweeted that all residents within a mile radius of Rahr Malting and Koda Energy should stay indoors, but says there is no immediate danger.

Online photos posted by KARE-TV show smoke billowing from the tall bins at the complex. A ladder truck is spraying water on the fire.

Rahr Malting is a family owned business that began in 1847. It produces and distributes malt and industry-related brewing supplies.

Shakopee is about 14 miles south of Minneapolis.
