Four years (many times 5) years of specialized study deserves recognition, financing can't be an issue- just take the extra 20 cents out of tuition... if our vender cannot add an extra line then maybe we need to look at other options. I have always admired my parents diplomas on the wall in my home and its really disappointing to know mine wont have the details like theirs do.

It may look elegant, but it doesn't really show what you focused on during your four years in college, the area of knowledge you devoted your time towards. Just listing a B.A. or B.S. doesn't really say much. When people look at your diploma, they'll think, "Yep, he/she got a B.A./B.S....yep." What everybody wants to know when they see dipomas in offices is what that person concentrated in. Whenever I read the background of people and what colleges they went to, the main thing I always look for is what they majored in. It gives me a better, more descriptive idea on who they are. If the current company used for making diplomas can't make it work, find a different one. It surely can't be a finance issue.

Glad to see USG looking into ideas like this. I must admit, though, I don't understand why students would want to print their majors. It'd just clutter up a clean, elegant B.A. or B.S. diploma. So it seems to me, anyway.

I understand the reasoning of the University but the students who want their major printed have more of an argument. It isn’t about verification for employment, it is about recognition of one’s own hard work. I want to see my diploma with my major, there are far too many different majors to lump all graduates into a couple categories. Each major comes with its own distinctions and I’d like to distinction to be displayed in my home office. I might go as far as having a ‘fake’ made just so I can print it on there. Perhaps next year’s appeal will include a request for a blank space for graduates to have custom printing done.
