MINNEAPOLIS — Running back Jordan Roberts totaled 108 rushing yards and a touchdown to propel the St. Thomas football team to a 34-0 halftime lead over Augsburg Saturday afternoon at Edor Nelson Field.

On St. Thomas’ (4-0 overall, 2-0 MIAC) first possession, Roberts chalked up a 57-yard run. The Tommies were unable to punch it in and turned the ball over on downs at Augsburg’s 4-yard line. Roberts finished the first quarter with 91 rushing yards.

St. Thomas finally reached the end zone with a 12-yard rushing score from running back Jack Kaiser. He raced to the left side and bounced it outside before winning the footrace to the goal line.

Defensive lineman Ryan Winter spoiled Augsburg’s (2-2 overall, 1-1 MIAC) next possession with a juggling interception that he returned for a 2-yard touchdown. Kicker Paul Graupner’s successful extra point gave St. Thomas a 14-0 lead with 6:07 left in the first quarter.

Roberts tacked on another Tommie score with a 1-yard rushing touchdown at the 12:45 mark of the second quarter. A screen pass from quarterback John Gould to tight end Charlie Dowdle turned into a 54-yard touchdown. A failed two-point conversion made the score 27-0 with 5:33 left in the second quarter. Dowdle finished the first half with 87 receiving yards. Wide receiver Nick Waldvogel chalked up 129 receiving yards in the first half.

Defensive back Jordan Young snagged quarterback Ayrton Scott’s intended pass around the 20-yard line after Augsburg wide receiver Joey Sonnenfeld stumbled and fell. Young returned Scott’s second interception to the Tommies’ 30-yard line.

St. Thomas capitalized with a 4-yard touchdown pass from Gould to wide receiver Ryan Bradley that ran its lead to 34 points.
