April storm leaves 6 to 7 inches of snow

Snow and ice-covered roads added extra time to the morning commute in the Twin Cities Friday.

Forecasters said about 6 to 7 inches of snow has fallen in the metro area, with greater amounts north and west. Hutchinson in McLeod County is dealing with 10 inches of fresh snow.

Some schools are taking the day off, including Annandale, Forest Lake and Maple Lake. Many others have a delayed start because of the difficult driving conditions.

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for eastern and southern Minnesota until mid-morning on Friday. Another band of snow is expected to bring 1 to 2 inches of additional snow to the Twin Cities before it diminishes later Friday morning.
