The St. Thomas baseball team is set to compete in the NCAA tournament after receiving a bid Sunday night. This will be the team’s 19th appearance in 23 seasons.

The at-large berth came as a surprise after the baseball team lost two games Friday at the MIAC playoffs. The Tommies (26-16) snatched the No. 6 seed of the tournament, which will start Thursday, May 18.

Macalester (26-15), the MIAC playoff champions are ranked No. 7. The runner-up team, Bethel (33-10) did not receive a bid. The strength of the Tommies’ schedule secured their bid.

The Tommies will play No. 3-seed Adrian College (Mich.) in the first round at 4:30 p.m in Whitewater, Wisconsin.
