Dancers audition for athletic complex promotional video

St. Thomas students showed off their best dance moves Monday in Scooter’s during auditions to be in a promotional video for the new Anderson Athletic and Recreation Complex.

“The university wanted a promotional kind of piece that would attract students and kind of be by students, for students,” Eddie Kunz said. Kunz, who is taking the fall semester off from school but will return in the spring as a junior, was hired by St. Thomas to produce and direct the video. He is currently living in Madison, Wis., but will be driving back to Minnesota to shoot the video.

The Office of Admissions is the university department in charge of the video, according to Joanne Pauley of university relations. Kunz said he used the audition to find high-energy students who are willing to work late hours. Students had to prepare a 30-60 second dance routine that showed off all their moves.

“Usually I just go with gut. I really don’t prepare any dancing, unless I really have to,” said sophomore Albert Conteh. “But I just felt like they just want to see my personality. So I just kind of went with it and played a song I usually dance to and just had fun with it.”

Senior Grace Valle said participating in the video provides students with a rare opportunity.

“It just seemed like a really fun opportunity to do a video,” said Valle. “I’ve never been involved with something like that before.”

Kunz said the video will not be a typical promotional video.

“It’s kind of going to be “Night at the Museum”, has some exotic costumes meets the rec center … so it should be pretty entertaining and kind of something people hopefully haven’t seen too much before.”
