Men’s bball packs stadium in home opener

The St. Thomas men’s basketball team beat the University of Wisconsin-River Falls 65-60 Tuesday night.

Assistant coach John Hughes said he was pleased with the team’s performance.

“River Falls always plays us tough, and we always have good games with them,” Hughes said. “They worked hard, and our kids worked hard to come back at the end and get some big free throws. So it was a good win.”

Senior Alex Healy scored 16 points, and junior Tommy Hannon scored nine points and had 11 rebounds. Senior Tyler Nicolai not only scored 10 points in Tuesday’s game, but also went over his 1,000-career points mark.

“It was pretty exciting and it was nice to get it here,” Nicolai said. “It was a lot of fun.”

The Tommies play the Macalester Scots Dec. 1 at home.
