St. Thomas softball advances to NCAA tournament finals

After defeating the Eagles 4-0 in the first game, the St. Thomas softball team advanced to NCAA softball tournament finals with a sweep over University of Wisconsin-La Crosse 5-0 to take the Super Regional Championship Friday at South Field.

Infielder Chase Shortly hit one home run and a double, tallying four RBIs to help the Tommies (43-5) sweep the Eagles (29-20).

The Tommies were able to score a single run in the first inning and scored runs in each of the last three innings of the game. The Tommies outhit the Eagles 6-3.

The Tommies have outscored their opponents 30-1 this post season.

Pitcher Kierstin Anderson-Glass has recorded seven shutouts in the Tommies’ eight playoff games.

The victory means the Tommies will play in the NCAA Finals in Tyler, Texas next weekend.

The Tommies have played in the NCAA finals three of the past six seasons.
