Body found along Mississippi River not affiliated with St. Thomas

A man’s body was discovered Friday night along the Mississippi River bluffs near Summit Avenue.

The man apparently died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said. The body was discovered at about 7 p.m. by a riverboat captain, according to the Star Tribune.

The man’s identity has not been made public, but Public Safety Associate Director Michael Barrett said the man was not affiliated with St. Thomas.

“I guarantee I would have been called if it was [someone affiliated with St. Thomas] and I wasn’t,” Barrett said.

He said his staff is aware of the situation and they expect to know more within a few hours.
