Minneapolis police investigate 2 fatal shootings

MINNEAPOLIS — Minneapolis police are investigating the second fatal drive-by shooting of the weekend and have identified the victim as a 16-year-old boy.

The Minneapolis Police Department says officers responded about 3:30 Sunday morning to find a victim with a gunshot wound to the head lying in a front yard in south Minneapolis. He died at Hennepin County Medical Center.

The Hennepin County medical examiner identifies the victim as 16-year-old Andrew James Battees of Minneapolis. Police say indications are the shots that struck Battees came from a passing car.

Police continue to investigate an earlier fatal drive-by shooting about 2 a.m. Saturday in which 29-year-old Phelandis Jackson of Minneapolis was killed. That happened outside a restaurant on Lyndale Avenue in south Minneapolis.
