Powderpuff football game draws fewer than expected

After the St. Thomas football team defeated St. Olaf Saturday, some Tommie women got the chance to play football at O’Shaughnessy Stadium.

Senior Eyo Ekpo organized the upperclassmen powderpuff football event.

“A group of us get together every Saturday before the (football) game and we decided we should all do something,” Ekpo said.

Ekpo reached out to the athletic department and said things ran fairly smoothly.

“It was a lot easier logistically than I thought it would be, so I talked to Dave Lepp and he said this time was open for the field,” Ekpo said.

The turnout wasn’t what they expected, so the men subbed in.

“We actually lined up girls and guys so we made it a co-ed game, so it wasn’t specifically juniors versus seniors,” senior Sarah Dahl said.

Senior Britni Tokheim hopes juniors can pull through for the future.

“You’ve got the freshman dorm powderpuff game,” Tokheim said. “We need somebody to kind of stick around and do things for the upperclassmen because we still want to have fun and be kids.”
