Students assemble race car by hand

Seniors Joe Aplin, Ryan Cassidy, Patrick Peterson and Chantharang Phouapradit are working hard in their senior design capstone class.

Peterson said he and the rest of the crew used class concepts to design the race car.

“Essentially we’re trying to linearize the relationship between the throttle pedal position,” Peterson said, “and the air flow to the engine by changing the disk mechanism in the throttle body.”

Alterations on the car will be continued until it is ready for the UST Racing Club to try it out and use it for competition.

Senior Mike Coon advised business majors to join the club because it presents opportunities for internships with major manufacturing companies.

“I remember last year when I was in competition, actually doing the business presentation, there was a Honda (representative) that actually sat in on the presentation and was offering jobs after we got out,” Coon said.
