USG approves budget, allocates more than 93K to clubs

The Undergraduate Student Government will give more than $93,000 to St. Thomas clubs and organizations this semester, as USG approved its fall budget allocations Sunday, Oct 25.

Among the top recipients of USG funding are Volunteers in Action, Globally Minded Students Association, The Advertising Federation, Campus Crusade for Christ, SHINE, Saint Paul’s Outreach, HANA, KUST and the Rock Climbing Club.

Brady Narloch, USG vice president of financial affairs, said clubs that did not receive USG funding either already have a high account balance, are not eligible for USG funding or did not submit an allocation request.

Narloch also said that many budget allocation concerns were resolved in the past week as he had a chance to speak with club representatives.

“The biggest thing that has changed since the last time [USG] talked about this is that I’ve met with clubs and they have had a chance to ask us questions about the allocation process,” Narloch said. “I would say there are just one or two clubs that I would still like to talk to.”

Silver Wings, the American Marketing Association and HANA will receive USG funding to attend conferences this semester. All three organization’s conference and competitions requests were approved by the USG general council.

The St. Thomas Veterans Association and the Trading and Collectible Cards Club are now official St. Thomas organizations. Both received USG approval at Sunday’s meeting.
