USG approves three clubs, doles out $3,300 in requests

The Undergraduate Student Government approved more than $3,300 in conference and competition requests at Sunday’s meeting.

Students for Justice and Peace will receive $1,600 for 20 members to attend a peace-vigil event at the School of the Americas. Club hockey will receive $1,600 for 20 members to compete in a hockey tournament in Illinois and Engineers for a Sustainable World will receive $120 to attend a conference in St. Paul.

The Photography Club, Water Polo Club and the Hmong United Student Association all received unanimous USG approval and are now official St. Thomas clubs and organizations.

The Water Polo Club is co-ed and currently meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:30-9 p.m. The club plans on joining the College Water Polo Association in the future.

The Hmong United Student Association aims to promote and create awareness of the Hmong culture at St. Thomas and is not exclusive to Hmong students.

The Photography Club aims to bring together students interested in photography.

USG will hold a Harry Potter party in the library from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” will be shown and Harry Potter candy will be provided. USG’s regular party in the library will start at 10:45 p.m.
