Men’s golf place second at MIAC championships

Junior Sean Barrett took second place in a field of 50 players to lead St. Thomas to a second place tie with Gustavus at the MIAC championships Monday.

St. John’s repeated as champions at the 54-hole tournament played at Bunker Hills in Coon Rapids.

Senior James Stafford also finished in the top 10 for the Tommies. As a team, St. Thomas finished 21 strokes behind St. John’s.

Barrett fired three straight rounds of 73 to repeat as All-MIAC and was also the lone player in the tournament to shoot 73 or lower every round.

Junior Grant Shafranski tied for 13th with a three round total of 228. Freshman John Young tied for 19th with a 230.

Next up for the men’s golf team is the Twin Cities Classic on Oct. 10.
