St. Thomas defeats Northwestern College, heads into first round of MIAC playoffs

After locking up the first seed for the MIAC playoffs, the St. Thomas baseball team defeated Northwestern College 12-1 Tuesday in its final regular-season game.

St. Thomas finished the regular season with a 24-14 record and was undefeated at home.

The Tommies started off the game slow, scoring nothing in the first inning, but made it up in the second inning.

Tayler Rahm started off the second with a double to center field that led to an RBI single from Dan Reichert. The Tommies rallied off three more runs and led the Eagles 4-0.

Going into the third, the Tommies locked out the Eagles, allowing just one hit. The Tommies scored three more runs, making the score 7-0.

The Eagles pushed back in the fourth inning, scoring a run of their own, but were quickly shut down. In the bottom of the fourth, the Tommies added to their cushion with Drew Cremisino’s three-run homer.

The Eagles battled hard through the rest of the game but were unable to come back.

The Tommies added one run in both the seventh and eighth innings to end the game 12-1. The Tommies play No. 4 seed St. John’s at 3:30 p.m. Friday at St. John’s in the first round of the MIAC playoffs.
