Women’s soccer beats Hamline Pipers 2-0

Freshman duo Katy Scherer and Stephanie McCartan led the St. Thomas women’s soccer team (3-2-0 MIAC, 6-4-0 overall) to a 2-0 victory over the Hamline Pipers (0-5-0 MIAC, 3-7-0 overall) Saturday afternoon.

Scherer scored the Tommies’ first goal in the middle of the first half off an assist from McCartan.

“It is fun to see different team dynamics,” coach Sheila McGill said. “It is great to see them have fun and make even better things happen on the field.”

McCartan scored her first goal of the season with 2 minutes left in the game, after dropping the ball right in the goal on a cross.

”It was totally thrilling to score that goal,” McCartan said. “It doesn’t happen very often for me, but I’m enjoying it for now.”

The team will play the Concordia-Moorhead Cobbers, the No. 1 team in the conference, 4 p.m. Wednesday at Concordia.
