Women’s tennis beats Southwest State 9-0 in first home match

The St. Thomas women’s tennis team opened its season with a 9-0 victory over Southwest Minnesota State University. The match at the new Anderson Athletic and Recreation Complex was the team’s first home appearance in two years.

The team started the new season with three returning players and is led by senior captains Alex Frank and Madeline Gail.

The co-captains won their doubles match 8-6. Both Frank and Gail added to the Tommie victory with wins in their singles matches. The Tommies also tallied four other singles match victories.

Senior Katie Branflick and sophomore Lauren Shultz earned a victory in their doubles match, along with sophomore Mary Allen and freshman Rachel Wright.

The Tommies’ next game is against St. Cloud State Feb. 13 at home. The women will look to best last season’s 11-6 record.
