Harry Potter event not a wand-length short of expectations

Last Saturday night, St. Thomas Hall Council sponsored a Yule Ball as a wrap up to a week of Harry Potter-themed events.

“It was like a prom get together, and I’ve never been to prom,” freshman Hanna Johnson said. “I found a way to hang out with my new college friends, and we dressed up and partied.”

The other events included wand crafting, potion brewing, a movie night, a wizardly door decorating contest and Harry Potter Scene It.

“It’s been a full week,” Murray Hall Director Jordan Mayer said.

Students did not have to be die-hard Potter fans to participate in the week of wizardly wonders.

“I’ve read only the first two (books), but I’ve watched all the movies,” Johnson said. “That totally counts, right?”

This enchanted event wasn’t a wand-length short of expectations for students, and it was more than a dance for sophomore resident adviser Ranitha Rajaratnam.

“I like how it brought the floors together,” Rajaratnam said. “I think hall council did a really good job. Yule Ball was my favorite part.”
