Who We Are

About TommieMedia

TommieMedia is the student-run media for the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota. It was first established in December 1912 as The Purple and Gray, becoming The Aquin in September 1933. In 2009, the publication, renamed TommieMedia, transitioned to the web and became the first Associated Press-member college newspaper to go all-digital in the United States.

TommieMedia has won numerous accolades, including awards from the Society of Professional Journalists.

Mission and Vision

Our core purpose is to pursue stories that affect and interest our audience.

We are committed to featuring a range of voices, and we strive to be the source of choice for news and information for the campus community, including students, staff, faculty, and other community stakeholders. We aim to provide a fresh, independent – and critical – perspective that reflects the vitality of the community and can’t be found anywhere else.

Our Relationship to the University of St. Thomas

Stories are produced independently by students; however, the university provides compensation for staff in leadership roles and faculty advisers, office space, computer and video equipment, and web space.
