Hundreds mourn fallen St. Paul police officer

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Hundreds of mourners have said goodbye to a fallen St. Paul police officer who lived his childhood dream to follow in his father’s footsteps.

A funeral was held Friday for 30-year-old Officer Josh Lynaugh at the Cathedral of St. Paul. Lynaugh died of a heart attack last week after a police foot chase.

As a child, Lynaugh once wrote in a school essay, “I want to be a cop like my pop.” His father is Tim Lynaugh, a retired St. Paul police sergeant.

Friend and fellow officer Lou Ferraro says Josh Lynaugh’s father was his hero and role model. Ferraro described his friend as kind and giving — someone who would buy dinner for people he had never met before.

KARE-TV reports Josh Lynaugh will be buried in Stillwater.
