Senior Amy Anderson led the women’s golf team to a third place finish at the MIAC championships Monday at Bunker Hills in Coon Rapids.
Anderson received All-MIAC honors after finishing in a three-way tie for second place and recording a 240.
Men’s golf place second at MIAC championships
Junior Sean Barrett took second place in a field of 50 players to lead St. Thomas to a second place tie with Gustavus at the MIAC Championship Monday.
St. John’s repeated as champions at the 54-hole tournament played at Bunker Hills in Coon Rapids.
Women’s CC finishes fifth in Oregon
Senior Kelly Russ led the women’s cross country team to a fifth place finish out of 19 teams Saturday at the Willamette Invite in Salem, Ore.
St. Thomas took second out of the Division III schools, finishing just behind Whitworth. Russ took 11th place out of a 203 runners. Sophomore Alyssa Rasett-Mehl came in 15th and Taylor Berg finished 38th.
Seven straight wins for women’s soccer
The women’s soccer team got the game’s only goal from sophomore Regina Horak and defeated Wisconsin-Steven’s Point 1-0 at home Saturday.
The win is St. Thomas’ seventh in a row and the Tommies have outscored opponents 17-2 over that stretch. Sophomore Allie Byron had four saves in net for the Tommies to pitch a shutout.
Men’s soccer beats St. Olaf at home
St. Thomas got goals from junior Reid Moser-Bleil and sophomore Angel Riera as the Tommies beat Hamline 2-0 at home Saturday.
The win moves the Tommies to 6-4-1 overall and 2-1 in MIAC play. Senior Carlos Castelan made three saves and recorded a shutout in net for St. Thomas.
Strong finish at Blugold Invite for men’s CC
The men’s cross country team rode the performance of four top-eight finishers to take second place at the Blugold Invite Friday. St. Thomas finished just behind host Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
The Tommies had three runners place in the top five. Sophomore Ben Sathre came in second place and senior Mike Connell placed third. Senior Brian Sames took fifth place and sophomore Tyler Iverson finished in eighth.
St. Thomas weighs in on Favre’s first game against Packers
With the Oct. 5 Monday Night Football match up between the Vikings and Packers, emotions are running high on the St. Thomas campus as Brett Favre prepares to square off against his former team. Opinions varied, from anger to indifference, as Favre fans and Favre haters get ready for Monday’s game.
Men’s soccer trounces Buena Vista 7-0
Three first half goals from sophomore Mike Hutton helped men’s soccer bounce back from Saturday’s loss at Bethel as St. Thomas trounced visiting Buena Vista 7-0 at home Tuesday.
Elliot Amundson, Jeff Frank, Sean Kennedy, and Kris O’Toole all had goals for the Tommies. As for the defensive effort, Carlos Castelan and Alex Benson split a shutout in net for St. Thomas.
Volleyball aims to extend 33-game conference win streak
The volleyball team will take on Bethel University at home Wednesday. The match will be played at 7:30 p.m. at St. Thomas’ “home site” for the season, Concordia’s Gangelhoff Center.
The Tommies enter the match 12-2 and undefeated through four games of conference play. St. Thomas has won 33-straight conference matches in a streak dating back to 2007.
Volleyball beats No. 17-ranked Concordia 3-1
No. 6-ranked volleyball team beat a tough conference opponent in No. 17-ranked Concordia 3-1 in Moorhead Saturday. Senior Kyley Crotty’s 14 kills and junior Emily Foster’s 42 assists helped lead the Tommies to its 33rd consecutive conference win.
Junior Tori Jones added 11 kills as St. Thomas moved to 12-2 overall and 3-0 in MIAC play. Juniors Jill Osborne and Katie Bonine each added eight kills and freshman Kaitlin Wachter had 24 digs.
Women’s golf grabs second at St. Ben’s Invite
Senior Amy Anderson led the women’s golf team to a second place finish on Sunday at the St. Ben’s Invite. Anderson shot a 159 for the two-day tournament to record her second medalist finish in the last three weeks.
St. Cloud State took first place in the six team field. St. Ben’s came in third and Carleton took fourth place behind the Tommies.

The No. 14-ranked women’s cross country team finished seventh out of 27 teams Saturday at the University of Minnesota Roy Griak Invite. Women win, men lose soccer doubleheader at Bethel
The men’s and women’s soccer teams split their Saturday afternoon ticket at Bethel. The women posted a 2-1 win while the men lost 2-1.
The women fell behind 1-0, but two unanswered goals in five minutes was enough to give the Tommies the victory and run its win streak to five games. Junior Lexie Fisher tied the game with a goal assisted by senior Erin Sprangers and St. Thomas got the eventual game-winner from freshman Anna Strehlow, the first of her college career.
Men’s golf divided between states this weekend
The Tommie men’s golf team will divide its team between two tournaments this weekend, starting 10 a.m., Saturday, at the St. Olaf Invite. The second tournament, the Wis.-Eau Claire Invite, begins Sunday at 11 a.m.
The second and final round of the St. Olaf Invite tees off at 10 a.m., Sunday, and the Wis.-Eau Claire Invite finishes Monday starting at 10 a.m.
Women’s golf at St. Ben’s Fall Classic
The women’s golf team will head to Sartell Saturday for the first of two rounds in the St. Ben’s Fall Classic.
The Tommies have had strong showings in its last two events, finishing fifth last weekend at the Division III Classic and coming in at sixth at the Wartburg Invite the weekend before.
St. Thomas did not compete in the St. Ben’s Classic last season. Tee off is at noon.
