St. Thomas football earns top-four seed in NCAA playoffs

The third-ranked St. Thomas football team earned the second-overall seed in the NCAA DIII tournament bracket Sunday evening, and will play the Upper Midwest Conference Champion Northwestern-St. Paul in the first round of playoffs.

Offensive penalties, a slippery field and ball and the undefeated St. Thomas football team all opposed the Bethel Royals in a 27-6 Tommie victory in the rain Saturday at Royal Stadium.

Wide receiver Nick Waldvogel fought off multiple Royals on a 44-yard run late in the first quarter to score the sole touchdown of the half, giving St. Thomas (5-0 MIAC, 7-0 overall) a 7-0 lead over Bethel University (3-2 MIAC, 3-4 overall) Saturday.
