The St. Thomas men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams kicked off the season Saturday in the new Anderson Athletic and Recreation Complex pool with the St. Thomas relays, a non-scoring meet.
The atmosphere Saturday at the new pool was great, coach Tom Hodgson said.
Since I’ve been a St. Thomas student, the sports that have garnered the most fan interest have been football, men’s basketball, baseball and volleyball.
It’s not surprising.
The Tommies are 8-0 in the regular season for the first time since 1956. The victory over Bethel made St. Thomas the sole leader in the MIAC conference. And with only two conference games remaining in the regular season, the Tommies are inching closer and closer toward a MIAC championship and undefeated season.
The Tommies are alone atop the MIAC after beating the Bethel Royals 10-6 Saturday at Palmer Field.

TommieMedia had the opportunity to walk through the Anderson Athletic and Recreation Complex Wednesday afternoon with St. Thomas trustee Lee Anderson, the benefactor of a $60 million dollar gift to construct the athletic complex and the upcoming Anderson Student Center.
Palmer Field will be the stage this Saturday for one of the biggest MIAC games of the season: the No. 4 ranked Tommies vs. the No. 20 Bethel Royals.
Both teams are undefeated and atop the MIAC, and Saturday’s winner will be the clear front-runner in the race for the conference title.
The Tommie women’s volleyball team collected its 14th straight win Wednesday night at Schoenecker Arena after defeating Gustavus 3-1. With the win, St. Thomas remains tied for the MIAC lead with St. Olaf and Concordia.

Tailgating is back at St. Thomas for the first time in several years. Parents and alumni gathered Saturday to tailgate, but no St. Thomas students showed up.

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. — Ben Wartman scored the winning touchdown on a 10-yard run in overtime, as St. Thomas ended its 13-year jinx with a 27-26 victory Saturday over St. John’s.
Junior quarterback Dakota Tracy has never lost a Tommie football game as a starter. Tracy has had an unblemished 8-0 record in the starting lineup, dating back to last October in his first career start.
Despite an early lead, the St. Thomas women’s soccer team (4-3, 1-1 MIAC) gave up two unanswered goals and lost 3-2 to the Wisconsin-Eau Claire Blugolds on a rainy Wednesday afternoon on the South Campus field.
