Be Visible performance raises money, educates

Students escaped the cold and rushed into the seats of the Brady Educational Center auditorium for the “Be Visible” event, presented by Invisible Children on Saturday night.

PULSE and Dance Club partnered to fund raise for the Invisible Children organization’s Schools for Schools campaign, and to help the chapter on campus spread the word about war-torn Uganda.

Volleyball’s regional bracket has six top-ranked teams

After losing to St. Olaf in the MIAC playoffs, the St. Thomas volleyball team received a second chance with an at-large bid into the NCAA Division III playoffs. The sixth-seeded Tommies boarded the bus this morning on the way to Oshkosh, Wis., where the Tommies will take on the third-seeded University of Wisconsin-Whitewater at 12:30, Thursday in the first round.

Weekly Trayless Tuesdays? Not so fast

This week students who dined in the cafeterias on campus had an opportunity to show some love for the environment by participating in Trayless Tuesday. But will Trayless Tuesdays continue to be a weekly event for St. Thomas?

“Not at this time,” said Director of Dining Services Todd Empanger.

Pep fest, 5K highlight homecoming activities

The construction of the Anderson Athletic and Recreation Center has caused many changes in this weekend’s homecoming festivities, but many Tommie traditions will still be included.

STAR intern Wendy Lor said planning activities for homecoming week with construction on campus was difficult.

“It seems really sad that a tradition like the dance had to go away because of the construction but I think we just need to move forward with the Anderson athletic building,” Lor said. “It will be good. I think this is a good change.”

On-campus interviews offer more internships, fewer jobs

On-campus interviews are underway this fall and the Career Development Center is noticing fewer full-time job openings, but more summer internship offerings. More large corporations and organizations are already hiring for summer 2010 positions, a trend unlike past years.

The poor economy has not influenced the number of employers coming to interview, but rather the type of position they are looking for, said Jennifer Kaysen-Rogers, employer relations specialist at the Career Development Center.
