Housing selection process to favor underclassmen
St. Thomas Residence Hall Association announced in an email this November that it will reserve 150 more beds in on-campus housing for current first-year students returning for fall 2019. St. Thomas plans to move towards a two year on-campus residency requirement as they renovate and restructure campus housing in the next ten years.
Upper Quad renovations to improve student experience
In an attempt to move the university toward the two-year on-campus residency requirement and make new opportunities for first-year students, St. Thomas announced three renovation projects for the upper quad. The St. Thomas Aquinas Chapel will be expanded and two new dormitories will be added.
Truth and transformation: Changing racial narratives in media
Through a statewide conference in March titled Truth and Transformation: Changing Racial Narratives in Media, ThreeSixty Journalism hopes to change the representation of racial narratives in local news. The project is funded by the Kellogg Foundation and involves a number of partners but is spearheaded by Minnesota Public Radio.
St. Thomas a cappella groups sing out against hate
In response to recent hate crimes and racial incidents on campus, St. Thomas a cappella groups collaborated to create a music video project called We Stand For. Cadenza and the Summit Singers recorded the song “If You’re Out There” by John Legend and then invited students, clubs and other community members to come to OEC auditorium and write on a sign what they stood for.
Women’s hockey downs River Falls
The No. 7 St. Thomas women’s hockey team defeated No. 4 Wisconsin River Falls 3-1 Wednesday at St. Thomas Ice Arena. Tommies’ goalie Mackenzie Torpy saved 22 out of 23 shots and recorded her 55th career win.
Tommie running back starts athletic clothing brand
Josh Parks, a senior at St. Thomas and the starting running back for the football team, has a passion for fitness that extends beyond the field. Parks started GhostFit, an athletic apparel company that focuses on shirts, hoodies, joggers and cutoffs.
President gifts faculty, staff three days of paid leave
St. Thomas will be giving faculty and staff three extra paid days off between fall semester and January Term to spend with their families over the holidays. The gift days tradition was started by previous president Father Dennis Dease.

Women’s basketball crushes Carleton Knights 92-30
The St. Thomas women’s basketball team’s high energy led them to a 92-30 blowout win over the Carleton Knights Saturday at Schoenecker Arena. Senior center Hannah Spaulding led the team in scoring with 19 points and shot 83 percent.

The St. Thomas men’s basketball team overcame 15-point deficit in the second half Wednesday at Schoenecker Arena, securing its fifth-straight win in a 68-65 thriller against Bethel.
