Sigma Chi cleans up the neighborhood

Some St. Thomas neighbors expect trashed lawns on Sunday mornings from weekend parties, however, the St. Thomas Sigma Chi fraternity decided to try to help clean up.

The fraternity began bimonthly cleanups on 10 a.m. Sundays in hopes of improving neighborhood relations.

Sigma Chi president David Hackworthy said he and his brothers have received some “backhanded comments now and then where neighbors will say, ‘Oh it’s about time you kids are doing this,’ or ‘You should be doing a lot more of this.’”

The fraternity heard positive feedback from both St. Thomas faculty and neighbors too. They’re looking to collaborate with other clubs and organizations in the future.
