The No. 9-ranked St. Thomas volleyball team lost in five sets to No. 21-ranked St. Olaf in the semifinals of the MIAC playoffs Thursday. The Tommies fell 26-24 in the deciding set at Concordia University in St. Paul.
Next two Vikings home games not sold out
The Minnesota Vikings still have thousands of tickets left to sell for their next two home games and could face a television blackout if they don’t sell out the Metrodome.
According to chief marketing officer Steve LaCroix, about 4,000 tickets remain for the Nov. 15 game against Detroit and about 3,500 tickets remain the Nov. 22 game against Seattle.
Men’s soccer season ends with loss to Carleton
The St. Thomas men’s soccer season came to an end Wednesday in Northfield after losing 3-0 to top seed Carleton College (15-4, 8-2).
St. Thomas (10-7-2, 6-3-1) managed only two shots on goal and surrendered eight to Carleton in the loss.
Macalester defeats women’s soccer 1-0 in MIAC semifinals
The women’s soccer team fell 1-0 to Macalester in MIAC playoff action Tuesday on St. Thomas’ south field.
The loss is St. Thomas’ (13-5-1) second to Macalester (13-4-2) in 10 days, both by 1-0 decisions.
Men’s hockey starts out 1-0-1
Junior Rob Johnson’s late game goal was enough for the men’s hockey team to force a 1-1 tie with St. John’s Sunday night at the MIAC Showcase held at the Bloomington Ice Garden.
Men’s CC places third in MIAC behind Hamline, Olaf
The men’s cross country team finished third behind Hamline and St. Olaf in the MIAC championship Saturday. The Tommies were led by sophomore Ben Sathre’s third place finish and senior Brian Sames’ seventh place finish.
Women’s CC finishes third in conference
The women’s cross country team took third place behind Carleton and Bethel in the conference championships Saturday. Junior Allie Metzler led the Tommies with a 10th place finish, and senior Kelly Russ contributed points as well coming in 15th. Both received All-MIAC distinctions. Senior Erin Sprangers scored the game’s only goal in a 1-0 win over St. Mary’s Saturday. Senior Kirsten Moran assisted on Spranger’s goal as St. Thomas moved to 8-2-1 in the MIAC and secured a second place finish in the conference standings.
Volleyball gets share of MIAC title, plays Thursday
The volleyball team locked up a share of the MIAC championship after a 3-0 win over Augsburg Saturday. No. 10-ranked St. Thomas finished the regular season with a 10-1 conference record, tied with St. Ben’s.
