Tommies fifth in preseason Top 25

St. Thomas is ranked fifth in the 2011 D3Football.com top 25 preseason poll. The Tommies are one of five schools to have been ranked in the top 10 for the past 18  polls.

Wisconsin-Whitewater, Mount Union, Wesley and North Central (Ill.) hold the top four spots. Bethel (7) and St. John’s (25) give the MIAC three schools in the rankings.

St. Thomas will be led into the 2011 season by two preseason All-America selections, senior wide receiver Fritz Waldvogel and senior offensive tackle Chad Vandergriff. They are among 28 members of the D3Classic.com 2011 Preseason All-America team.

St. Thomas starts practice Aug. 15 and opens its season at home Sept. 3 against St. Norbert.
