Dobchuck stops 47 in women’s hockey’s close 3-1 loss to No. 4 Wisconsin

Despite 47 saves by senior goaltender Alexa Dobchuk and a second period equalizing goal by junior forward Luci Bianchi, the St. Thomas women’s hockey team was unable to best No. 4 Wisconsin as they lost 3-1 Monday night at St. Thomas Ice Arena in Mendota Heights.

The NCAA announced in November that it will expand the women’s ice hockey playoff bracket from eight to 11 teams, matching the men’s hockey NCAA tournament, after teams across the United States, including the St. Thomas’, denounced the gender gap in funding by sharing an infographic with the hashtag #CloseTheGapNCAA.

Graduate guard Estefania Ors dropped 22 points and shot 50% from three point range to lead Idaho State University to a 67-57 win as the Bengals handed the Tommies their seventh loss of the season Saturday at Schoenecker Arena.

Lyrics selected for St. Thomas fight song, hopes to unify community

Sara Gross Methner, St. Thomas’ General Counsel and Secretary, was announced as the winner of the lyric writing contest for the St. Thomas fight song on Nov. 17.

Senior goaltender Alexa Dobchuk saved 37 out of 40 shots for the Tommies, but the St. Thomas women’s hockey team could not split the series Saturday, losing 3-0 to Minnesota State University-Mankato at St. Thomas Ice Arena in Mendota Heights.

Members of the St. Thomas swim and dive team received two TicketSmarter Summit League Swimmer of the Week awards this month, with first-year swimmer Elizabeth Bonneville receiving the Women’s Swimmer of the Week award on Nov. 22 and senior diver Peyton Ekman being awarded Women’s Diver of the Week on Nov. 2.
