For the past three years, a star has called St. Thomas his home. This summer, that star was taken from the St. Thomas community, well, sort of.

As students settle in for their second full week of classes, some of you might be wondering, “So what exactly is there to do when I’m not in class besides ice cream socials and parties where cops always show up uninvited?” 

Students filled tables and were tapping their toes as this year’s first Student Musician Series performance, Lotus Eater, rocked Scooter’s during convo hour Thursday.

Lotus Eater played a collection of its own songs as well as a few covers, like the Beatles’ “Lady Madonna.” Andrew Smith, lead guitar and vocalist, said his band appreciates the opportunity to promote their music.

“After finals week last year, I had about a week vacation at home, and then went out to Hartford, Connecticut where I worked at ING in a summer actuarial internship, and in fixed income securities. I got back at the end of July, and went up to the Guntherland Trail in the Boundary Waters for about five days. I had about another week-and-a-half vacation there, then came to St. Thomas for operation managers’ training, starting on [Aug. 18]. Pretty full summer.”
