Public Safety Briefs: Feb. 21 – Feb. 28

On February 21 at 3:47 p.m. Public Safety documented suspicious activity at an off-campus location in Minneapolis. A suspect not affiliated with St. Thomas entered the American Indian Center and became disorderly, making threatening comments and acting aggressively toward employees, then left behind an old St. Thomas business card.

On February 21 at 10:42 p.m. Public Safety assisted Residence Life with a liquor law violation in Dowling Hall. Four underage St. Thomas students unlawfully consumed alcoholic beverages, including one who also unlawfully possessed alcoholic beverages.

On February 22 at 11:13 a.m. Public Safety assisted the Dean of Students office with suspicious activity on campus. Investigation concluded St. Thomas students were responsible for posting flyers around campus with insulting captions about a St. Thomas student.

On February 23 at 1:16 a.m. Public Safety responded to welfare check located in Flynn Residence Hall. A St. Thomas student, reportedly distressed and severely intoxicated, was located and after observation was allowed to remain in the building.

On February 23 at 2:25 a.m. Public Safety responded to a welfare check in LOT A. An underage St. Thomas student and a guest, both found significantly intoxicated, were taken off campus by a sober caregiver.

On February 23 at 10:44 a.m. Public Safety documented suspicious activity at Anderson Student Center. A St. Thomas employee reported receiving a suspicious voicemail from a person purporting to be a law enforcement officer asking for information about a former University employee.

On February 23 at 10:10 p.m. Public Safety assisted Residence Life with a drug law violation in Brady Residence Hall. An underage intoxicated St. Thomas student was found in possession of alcoholic beverages and drug paraphernalia.

On February 24 at 11:17 p.m. Public Safety and the St. Paul Police Department responded to suspicious activity at the Anderson Student Center. An intoxicated individual not affiliated with St. Thomas, reported by a St. Thomas student to be wandering through the area making threats, was found off campus and trespassed from University property.

On February 24 at 11:22 p.m. Public Safety assisted Residence Life with a drug law violation in Murray residence hall. A St. Thomas student was found in possession of marijuana.

On February 24 at 11:28 p.m. Public Safety and the St. Paul Fire Department responded to a fire system activation in Ireland Residence Hall. A chair was thrown at a pipe, causing it to break and flood water in the area.

On February 25 at 9:49 a.m. Public Safety responded to a welfare check in Brady Residence Hall. A St. Thomas student with suicidal ideation was taken off campus by family.

On February 26 at 11:35 p.m. Public Safety and the St. Paul Police Department responded to suspicious activity near the intersection of Cretin and Grand Avenues. A St. Thomas student reported indecent exposure by an unknown suspect.

On February 27 at 3:08 p.m. Public Safety documented a traffic accident in the R1 level of the Morrison Hall garage. A St. Thomas employee caused minor damage to a University-owned vehicle while driving out of the area.

On February 27 at 11:41 p.m. Public Safety documented a traffic accident in LOT M. A person with no St. Thomas affiliation accidentally backed into a vehicle owned by a St. Thomas student, causing minor scratches to a fender.

On February 28 at 10:21 a.m. Public Safety documented a narcotics violation on the 900 block of Nicollet Mall. The Minneapolis Police Department reported a suspect with no St. Thomas affiliation was arrested and booked into the Hennepin County Jail for possession of a white powdery substance.

On February 28 at 11:17 p.m. Public Safety assisted a St. Thomas student with an incident in Murray-Herrick Campus Center. A complaint was reported about St. Thomas students discussing what was described as a racial pejorative during a pre-classroom conversation.
