The St. Thomas Board of Trustees held a meeting Thursday to discuss ongoing plans for the university, including a two-year college and future positioning of the 2020 strategic plan.

Budget discussions included the re-evaluation of programs in every department and re-allocation of funds. Vice President of University Relations Doug Hennes said some departments have already merged programs.

“No final decisions have been made on eliminating programs or anything,” Hennes said. “In terms of, ‘Can we do things smarter and less expensively so that we can take the money and save and ultimately apply it to projects that come out of the strategic plan.’”

The board discussed questions regarding the location and scholarship funding for the two-year college. Hennes said the board discussed placing the college on the Minneapolis campus and the possibility of classes beginning as early as fall of 2017. The board has not given final approval.

“There’s going to be some restructuring.” Hennes said. “There’s more work to do over the next several months.”
