Defense plays sharp, Tommies cruise to 58-7 win

Tommie linebacker Blake Weber led a defense that gave up only one touchdown and one total yard Saturday at O’Shaughnessy Stadium as the Tommies cruised to 58-7 win over Gustavus.

Weber tallied two tackles and a second-quarter, 2-yard pick 6 against the Gusties. His touchdown was the second defensive touchdown of the season for the Tommies.

The defense held Gustavus quarterback Hunter Johnson to two completions on 12 passing attempts for 3 yards and an interception. This was the fourth time this season the Tommies held an opponent to negative rushing yards and the first time they held an opponent to a negative yardage total.

Quarterback Jacques Perra completed 19 of 29 for 237 yards and two touchdowns, as the offense put up seven touchdowns on the day.

Running back Josh Parks ran for 100 yards on 12 carries including a 48-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter.

The Tommies clinched an automatic bid into the NCAA playoffs and at least a share of the MIAC conference title with today’s win.
