St. Thomas volleyball senior Ellie Meyer was awarded MIAC Libero/Setter of the Week on Oct. 28, as she surpassed 2,000 digs and 400 sets played throughout her career as a Tommie.

She reached this milestone recording 81 digs in a 3-1 week for the Tommies, which included a 3-1 win over Bethel. This helped St. Thomas stay undefeated atop the MIAC standings.

“I am most proud of this season because we have remained consistent and our record is the best it’s been throughout my time at St. Thomas,” Meyer said.

Meyer has been a key player for the Tommies throughout her entire college career, and coach Thanh Pham gave high praise for his starting Libero.

“I don’t know if we can replace her,” Pham said. “She has been such a mainstay in our program for the last four years, and we’ve been fortunate to coach her.”

Meyer has improved her leadership throughout the years and was named captain for this year’s team.

“As a freshman my position required me to be a leader, whether I wanted to or not,” Meyer said. “But now I am totally comfortable with showing leadership as I use my position to benefit other people on the court.”

The Tommies haven’t won a conference championship during Meyer’s time at St. Thomas, but they have received an at-large bid to the national tournament every year.

“She knows what is at stake,” Pham said. “This is her senior class’ last shot at winning so they are putting everything they have into it.”

Meyer hopes to carry this momentum into this year’s MIAC tournament which begins Nov. 7.
