Men’s hockey uses yoga to prevent injuries

Men’s hockey strength coach Parker Burgess did a free week of yoga at Core Power, and now he’s got the team doing yoga together every week.

Head coach Jeff Boeser said he needed to find a way to “loosen (the players) up a bit” and prevent injuries. Not one player has pulled a groin since the team began doing yoga three weeks ago.

“Right now we are really ahead of where we were last year,” Boeser said. “We’ve still got a lot of work to do, a lot of work to do.”

The team opens its season Oct. 28 against St. Olaf.

  1. I’ve been preaching this stuff for over twenty years. [BTW, “warrior pose #3”—one-leg stand with body/arms/other leg parallel to floor—is great for the hamstring.] Flexibility prevents injuries, deep breathing “buys down” oxygen debt, and calm mental state increases awareness/game reaction. Of course, I go beyond that, as several high school level coaches in various sports already know. Any athletes interested in improving their endurance/training, please contact me through this link: goldenmonkeyathletic@msn.com Thank you.
