St. Thomas 74, Hamline 14

No. 6 ranked Tommie Football received 321 rushing yards on only 17 carries from Josh Parks (160) and Tom Loeffler (161), including six touchdown runs, en route to Saturday’s 74-14 win at Hamline in the conference opener for both teams.

St. Thomas (2-0 overall, 1-0 MIAC) rushed for 500 yards on 43 carries (11.6 ypr) and closed with 742 yards of offense. The Tommie defense had one takeaway, and limited the Pipers (1-2, 0-1) to 44 net rushing yards on 37 carries.

The Tommies head to UW-Eau Claire in a cross conference matchup with the Blugolds next Saturday while the Pipers host Concordia in MIAC play.

St. Johns 33, Gustavus 21

No. 4 ranked Johnnie football held Gustavus scoreless (2-1 Overall, 0-1 MIAC) in Q4 to hold off an upset in their MIAC opener. Johnnie quarterback Jackson Erdmann threw for 335 yards and four touchdowns, finding four different receivers for each score.

St. John’s (2-0 overall, 1-0 MIAC) held Gustavus to 40 yards rushing, with quarterback Michael Veldman accounting for 61 yards rushing.

The Johnnies head to Carleton next weekend in MIAC play while the Gusties host Bethel for their homecoming.

St. Olaf 36, Carleton 19

St. Olaf’s running back duo of Jordan Embry and Khayled Willis ran for 246 yards against the Carleton defense, with each of the runners scoring one touchdown. Wide receiver Gabe Alada caught two touchdown passes, while amounting 107 yards on the day.

The Oles (3-0 Overall, 1-0 MIAC) held the Knights (2-1 Overall, 0-1 MIAC) to 29 rush yards. Knights wide receiver Fletcher Metz caught two second half touchdown passes. The Oles had a 98 yard extra point return in Q4 after blocking a Carleton extra-point-attempt.

St. Olaf is on the road to Augsburg next weekend while Carleton plays host to NO.4 Saint John’s; both teams in MIAC play.

Concordia 48, Augsburg 0

Concordia’s 296 yards of rushing proved to be too much for the Auggie defense, with the Cobbers earning 6.4 yards per rush on 46 attempts. Three different rushers each scored a touchdown for the Cobbers, while wide receiver Andy Gravdahl caught two touchdowns.

Concordia (1-2 Overall, 1-0 MIAC) returned two interceptions for touchdowns after defensive backs Marshall King and Willie Jukes picked off Augsburg (1-2 Overall, 0-1 MIAC) quarterback Chad Costello.

The Cobbers plays Hamline next weekend while Augsburg hosts St. Olaf.
