St. John’s (3-1 MIAC, 5-1 overall) scored 35 points in the second half to rout Augsburg (1-3, 3-3) 49-3 on a homecoming Saturday in Collegeville.

St. John’s gained 557 yards of offense while holding Augsburg’s prolific offense to 195 yards, only 58 of those in the second half.

Running back Dusty Krueger led the Johnnies with 138 of the team’s 305 rushing yards and scored three touchdowns.

Augsburg had been ranked eighth in NCAA Division III with an average of 359.8 passing yards a game. Auggie quarterback Quinn Frisell, Division III’s fourth-best passer in at 338.4 yards a game, completed 11 of 31 passes for 126 yards. Wide receiver Nick Heenie, also among the national D3 leaders, caught one pass for 14 yards.

In the first half, St. John’s had three drives come up empty on a missed 29-yard field goal, and interception in Augsburg territory, and a failed fourth-down attempt at the Augsburg 14.

After a missed field goal on its first possession of the second half, St. John’s scored touchdowns the next four times it had the ball.

Johnnies quarterback Jackson Erdmann completed 16 of 22 passes for 228 yards and two touchdowns.

Wide receiver Evan Clark caught one of his scoring strikes for 37 yards just before halftime, then moved to defensive back after intermission and intercepted a Frisell pass late in the third quarter.

Bethel 49, Carleton 0

Bethel (2-2, 2-4) found little resistance while routing Carleton (0-4, 0-6) in Arden Hills, with quarterbacks Jake Marsh and Joey Lee combining for 430 yards passing with four touchdowns. Marsh completed 22 of 25 throws for 320 yards and touchdown strikes of 66 yards to Bryce Marquardt, 32 yards to Drew Larsen and 2 yards to Gideon Erharbor.

Lee completed 3 of 3 passes with most of his 110 yards coming on a 98-yard touchdown play to John Carlson.

Marquardt finished with nine catches for 174 yards.

St. Olaf 40, Hamline 33

St. Olaf cornerback Max Karpinski forced a fumble in the closing seconds with Hamline on the Oles’ 2-yard line to preserve the victory at Northfield.

St. Olaf built leads of 28-6 and 34-13, but Pipers quarterback Justice Spriggs drove his team to the St. Olaf 1-yard line in the final minute. After St. Olaf stopped Hamline on two plays, Spriggs bobbled the snap on third down, giving Karpinski his opening.

Khayleb Willis rushed for 157 yards and a touchdown, and Jack Goldstein completed 14 of 21 passes for 212 yards and four touchdowns for St. Olaf (2-3, 1-2) in its first victory over Hamline (1-2, 2-3) in five years.

Spriggs burned the Oles for 436 yards and five touchdowns on 33-of-50 passing, but with two interceptions. Nick Barber caught 16 Spriggs passes for 274 yards.
