The police officer who fatally shot Daunte Wright during a traffic stop in Brooklyn Center resigned Tuesday, along with the city’s police chief.

The resignations from Officer Kim Potter and Police Chief Tim Gannon came two days after the death of Wright, a 20-year-old black man.

Potter, a 26-year veteran, had been on administrative leave following Sunday’s shooting.

Prosecutors are expected to decide today whether to charge Potter for Wright’s death.

In response to the killing of Daunte Wright, the St. Thomas Racial Justice Initiative held a prayer service Tuesday over Zoom for community dialogue and healing.

The service was led by Incoming vice president for mission Father Chris Collins and Founding Director of the Racial Justice Initiative Yohuru Williams.

They provided a time for community members to pray, understand, and find ways to heal from the racism that plagues society.

The judge at former Minneapolis Officer Derek Chauvin’s murder trial turned down a defense request to acquit Chauvin in George Floyd’s death.

Chauvin’s attorney argued that prosecutors failed to prove that Chauvin killed Floyd.

The request came on Day Two of the defense case and acquittal requests made midway through a trial are usually denied.

The defense began its case Tuesday after 11 days of testimony and gripping video evidence presented by the prosecution.
