The trial of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was the first Minnesota criminal trial to be broadcast live on television and it will not be the last.

A spokesperson for the Hennepin County court system said an order from Judge Peter Cahill to allow the Chauvin broadcast will apply to the trial of the other three former Minneapolis officers charged in the death of George Floyd.

Thomas Lane, J. Alexander Kueng and Tou Thao will face trial in August for aiding and abetting both second degree murder and second degree manslaughter.

A stampede at a religious festival attended by tens of thousands of ultra-orthodox Jews in northern Israel killed at least 45 people and injured about 150 early Friday.

The stampede occurred during Lag BaOmer celebrations at Mount Meron and was the first mass religions gathering to be held legally since Israel lifted most of its COVID-19 restrictions.

It was one of the country’s deadliest civilian disasters.

The St. Thomas student body presidential election ended in a tie between Tyus Edmond and Adam Revoir.

Both candidates received 33.49% of the vote, while Kailey Corder received 31.1%.

Runoffs will be held from 8 a.m. Monday to 4 p.m. Tuesday.
